Please note that, effective 2010, nominations for the Junior Program

will be accepted only from tennis pros and/or coaches.

In March 2010, all Tennis Coaches and Club Professionals in the Charleston Area will be invited to submit applications on behalf of junior girls for the 2010 CALTA Junior Recognition Program.

In 2002, CALTA announced the establishment of the CALTA Junior Scholarship Program, designed to promote junior girls' tennis in our area, support junior girls in their tennis activities, help those with limited opportunities, and reward exceptional achievement.  To date CALTA has disbursed $54,000.

In addition to announcing the program on our CALTA web site, every year letters are sent to all the appropriate schools in the Charleston area, as well as every private tennis club and every public tennis facility -- and an announcement is in the Post & Courier.  Any adult in the Charleston Area may submit a nomination.

Our recipients may use their grants for any tennis-related purpose -- which is why in 2007 the name of the program was changed to the CALTA Junior Recognition Program.  We felt that this name better reflected our aims for the program.  We do much more than just help pay for a young girl's tennis education.  Through monetary grants we recognize ability and help train it, we recognize effort and encourage it, we recognize achievement and reward it, and we recognize need and try to fill the gaps.  To date we have done everything from the basics of putting shoes on feet and racquets in hands to funding lessons and clinics, sending girls to tennis camps, and helping out with tournament and travel expenses for the very serious.

If you know of a deserving young women who you feel would benefit from our program, please use the nomination form on this web site to nominate your candidate. An individual may sponsor multiple candidates.  A separate form is required for each applicant.

The requirements are straightforward: The nominee must be a junior girl currently living in the Charleston Area.  The deadline for submittals for the 2010 program will be April 30, 2010.
