On the day before the big event, our Board members spent the day at Omar . . .

                                  they brainstormed while eating lunch in The Grill  

                                                                  and then moved into the auditorium to decorate . . .                     

            That's Lynn, Megan and Martha wrapping the member gifts 

                                              Hutchie and Carole took a team approach . . . .

All of our 745 members received  a CALTA shopping tote (in black, but very "green")

  and everyone attending the luncheon (445 of our members!) also received

one of our valuable CALTA coupon packs.

Talented Christine set up the door prize table.   

The baskets contained beaded tennis coin purses with a handy chain to hang on your

tennis bag -- one for each of the lucky 120 ladies who would find

a "CALTA Door Prize" sticker under her chair.

The centerpiece of each table was a gift for the team captain . . . an

all-weather picnic blanket with carrying straps and pockets. 

One of the enthusiastic servers decided to spell the word "tennis" with the soup bowls!!

By the end of the afternoon, the room was transformed into

 a red/black/gold wonderland . . . almost ready for the big day . . . .

                         There were tables of all sizes . . . one had 18 !    

It's a special bonus that at Omar we can have any size table needed for a team --  

so all the members of a team can sit together !

On Tuesday morning the balloons were brought in  

and Christine hoisted a "star" balloon over every winning team's table

The awards for the winners were clip zip bags printed with

CALTA Division Winner 2008-2009 

for bragging rights!

The members of our Executive Board were very busy . . .

Linda readied the photo corner (our "Winners' Circle") . . .

Lynn prepared for raffle ticket sales

Pamela set up the display of the raffle items -- over 100! 

Nancy was behind the camera all morning but here we caught her

deciding where to put her MANY tickets . . .

 There were so many choices . . . including Lynn's quilt --> 

           lots of impressive artwork and handcrafted creations  . . .

   a real showcase of our members' artistic talents

  and a grand display of the generosity of our members who organized so many contributions.

                                 There were 12 tables laden with interesting items --

                                                all donated for the benefit of our Junior Program !!

The room looked very festive when the  doors opened at 10:30 . . .      

The official start time was 11AM, but many of the ladies like an early peek

at the raffle items -- it's a tough decision!

  Everyone stopped first at one of the welcome tables in the lobby.

      The "CALTA spirit "was very much in evidence . . .

    The ladies chatted . . . bought raffle tickets (all for the benefit of our Junior Recognition Program),

decided which bags to put their tickets into . . .

 . . . and surveyed the buffet tables

There was something for every taste  . . .

cold soups, a large salad bar, finger sandwiches, sliced meats/cheeses with rolls,

fruit with yogurt dip, pasta salad and very yummy desserts.  The buffet opened at 11:30. 

While everyone was eating, the ladies were asked to look under their chairs -- for a "door prize" sticker.

 After the lucky 120 door prize winners had claimed their gifts,  

Linda introduced the division coordinators and thanked them for their hard work this year. 

Each coordinator announced the winning teams in her division . 

That's Megan at the podium in the background -- and the others waiting their turns with the mike. 

As each team was announced, there was loud enthusiastic celebrating . . .

very well deserved !  

Each winning team went to the "Winners' Circle" to have its photo taken (see below).

And for the first time a special award was announced.

 The Division 5 captains had decided at the beginning of the season to "compete" for a Hospitality Award . . .

 They convened at the end of the season to vote . . . it was a landslide in favor of Maybank -- which received

 a crystal bowl to display for the season (to be passed on to next year's winner) and a bucket with a bottle of

 champagne to enjoy now.

Congratulations to the Division 5 Maybank team ! 

After the announcements of all the winners (see photos below!), we moved on to the raffle winners . . . no problem

getting everyone's attention . . . .there was lots of anticipation in the room !

Pamela's speedy announcing and her efficient team of ticket pullers and  runners

did an incredible job of moving quickly through our 100+ items. 

When the event ended at 1:30PM there were many happy winners . . . . 

 . . . and the big winners are the 39 young ladies who received awards from

CALTA's 2009 Junior Recognition Program.  Click here for a list of this year's winners.

The CALTA Board wishes to thank everyone who helped to make

this year's season and luncheon a great success.

See y'all on the courts again in August  for

the beginning of our 2009-2010 season . . .

And at the end of the 2009-2010 season,

we will have a very special celebration

to commemorate the 10th anniversary of CALTA !!
