2014 CALTA Luncheon Photo Album

In March, all of CALTA's 986 members received an invitation
to our season-end luncheon celebration on May 13 . . . 530 accepted!

On the day before the big event,
our thirteen Board members spent the day setting up at Omar.
They knew that, as in past years, it would be a challenging task
to transform the large space since the room
always starts out looking rather barren ....

so they got to work with all their supplies ...

a CALTA towel for every member ...
those who attended the luncheon received theirs in polka-dot gift bags ...

There were polka-dot (clearly a theme there!) ribbons
to tie the team table signs to the pedestals ...

There were glitzy tote bags for the
table centerpieces (appreciation gifts for the team captains) ...
inside were the CALTA towels for the team members not able to attend ...

The Board set up a table for each team.
The table sizes this year ranged
from 5 members attending to 19 (that's "The Pearls"!).

At each place setting was a welcome card (with the names of the recipients
of CALTA's 2013 Junior Recognition Program on the back)
and a polka-dot gift bag containing a pink or green or violet CALTA towel ...

The Flamingos of course had put in a request for all pink towels -- no surprise there!

The "Award Winner" signs were ready for the
tables of the 16 teams who led their divisions ...
and on each of the winner tables was a ribbon-trimmed plastic tote
containing an award tag for each team member ...
a two-sided acrylic tag ... classy new design this year!

As they did their set-up, the Board members worked around the ladies
from Distinctive Events who did a beautiful (and difficult!) job
hanging lime-colored satin draping from the ceiling ...

That was the easy part ... they had already fluffed 180 large tissue pom-poms
before they arrived.  We were in awe of their artistry and stamina!

WOW!!

By the end of set-up day, the room had been transformed!

While the team tables were being decorated, the fundraiser had been set up ...

The fundraiser tables were once again a grand display of the generosity
of our members.  Each of our 59 teams had been asked to donate an item.
The response from our teams, and also from individual contributors,
was gratifying -- all for the benefit of CALTA's Junior Recognition Program.

It was an impressive and varied collection . . .
and included many lesson certificates donated by our local pros . . . THANK YOU!

There were too many items to show all here ... but here is a sampling ...

With over 120 fundraiser items to organize and display, it had been a long day for Pamela ....

... but the next morning, she was clearly refreshed!

Nancy and Linda were dressed
to blend with the color scheme -- not a coincidence!

When the doors opened at 10:30,
Lynn was
ready to sell fundraiser tickets
with the help of Elsie and Bonnie ...

.
On their way in, everyone stopped at the welcome tables in the lobby --
once again organized by Cheryl.

Many thanks to our welcome table hostesses.

The banner over the entrance to the auditorium welcomed
the members of the 22 tennis centers
that had participated in CALTA during the 2013-2014 season.

In the lobby was a "Take One" table --
batteries for our CALTA watches (the 2010 member gift)
and extras of some of our past member gifts . . .
they quickly disappeared (an advantage of arriving early!)

The room filled quickly and the CALTA spirit was very much in evidence as the ladies
made their way to the ticket desk in front of the stage to buy their fundraiser tickets.
There was a supply of yellow CALTA pens to write their names on the tickets.

Before the food was served, the ladies had an hour to socialize
and to review all the fundraiser items.
As in the past it was a difficult choice with so many items . . .
so the ladies resolved that issue by purchasing many tickets ($9,400!) --
ALL for the benefit of junior girls' tennis in our local area!!

The cash bar, set up by Harbor Breeze Restaurant,
was a busy place ... once again mimosas were the most popular choice!!

The buffet opened at 11:45.
Many of the ladies said that this year's menu was "the best ever."
Created and served by Duvall Events (our third year with this superb company),
the menu provided something for every taste -- two cold soups, a salad bar,
an elegant tea sandwich, pasta salad, shrimp salad, chicken salad,
grilled vegetables with herbed feta sauce on the side,
a deli selection of sliced meats and cheeses with rolls,
a selection of fresh fruit with yogurt dip and house-made granola --
and delicious desserts.   Many ladies headed for those first!

As always with Duvall, the presentation was beautiful and the service was superb.

Even with four buffet lines (two on each side of the room),
with such a large group it was to be expected that there would be a bit of a wait . . .

some waited for a while at their team table ....
a good time to catch up with team-mates ...

some teams took the opportunity to take a photo ...

others chatted while waiting in line ...

It didn't take long for everyone to be served . . .

and the comments heard around the room were that the food was delicious --
and the variety of choices very much appreciated!

While the ladies were eating, Linda introduced the Board members
and asked the division coordinators to come up to announce
the winning teams in their divisions.
As expected, there was loud enthusiastic celebrating at the winner tables.

After the recognition of the winning teams,
Pamela announced the winners of the fundraiser items . . .

The ladies listened attentively to hear whose name
was called (interesting how quiet 500+ women can be!) . . .

When the event ended at 1:30PM there were many happy winners . . .

Some lucky ladies won more than once!

... and after the luncheon one of our members sent the following lovely message to the Board:
"I didn't win anything in the fundraiser this year but
I always win with the comradeship of my mates
and "other" team-mates from teams of past years ...
I love seeing these friends and reconnecting at the CALTA luncheon ...
I am happy to be a member of this incredible tennis family."

Once again the big winners are the young ladies who will receive awards from

CALTA's 2014 Junior Recognition Program.

The CALTA Board thanks everyone who helped to make
this year's season and luncheon a great success.
After the luncheon, the Board gathered
next door at Harbor Breeze to start planning 2015!
Unfortunately Carole, Cheryl, and Natalie were not able to be there.
From left: Betsy, Theresa, Kyla, Susan, Donna N., Donna S., Nancy, Lynn, Pamela, Linda.

See y'all on the courts in August for
the beginning of our 2014-2015 season!
